I was surprised by the end result of this painting and like it very much. Many of the recurring themes of my work are here: destiny, duty, loyalty, direction, walls, gates, temptation, staying on the path, etc. The painting came from a sketch I made in the Fall of 2008 that is a visual abstract of the first song I ever wrote.

Verse 1:

There’s a whisper in the woods
And you find you are ready
To leave all that you have behind

In your heart there’s a fire
Unforgettable desire
Will you heed the warning in your mind

Verse 2:

Though the wars they were many
And the journeys they were far
Did you think that your battles were done?

Would you throw down your burden?
And abandon your mates
To look for nothing lying under the sun?

Chorus:

And no one is telling you that your memory is not true
And no one is denying that what you feel is something good
And in the dark of night when all hope abandons you
Don’t fall off the path for a whisper in the woods

Verse 3:

There’s a garden with a gate
With only one way to get in
Yet you always try and jump the wall

You’re in a desperate position
To reverse your direction
And get back to the place of the fall

I think this was my 2nd favorite. I was amazed at how different it looked in color than the black and white on the postcard.

Glad you like it! I must admit I prefer all the original skecthes done in pen better.
